This weekend features a full slate of soccer action, with the top leagues around Europe playing, including the English Premiership League featuring some of the best teams in the world. A much anticipated match as two of the best teams in the league face off.

After a very strong start, Newcastle United has cooled off a bit, but with a New Year, they look to return to the top of the table. They currently sit in seventh place on the table through 19 games, and have earned eight wins and six draws to go with five losses.

They were among one of the last teams to lose a game this season, but have since struggled. Newcastle won early in the season on strong defense, a facet of the game that helped their weaker offense. Injuries and fatigue have hurt them, however, and the defense has become porous. They have allowed 25 goals on the season, but have only scored 26.

Stoke City is on their heels just a point behind, but Liverpool has a four point lead and Chelsea is ahead by six points. Still, they have a game in hand on both those clubs and still much of the season to play.

To earn three points they will have to beat one of the best teams in the league. Manchester United sits in second place, with the same record of 14 wins, three draws, and two losses as first place Manchester City. They sit in second due to having lost to City earlier in the season in a rout.

United had played great of late until a New Years Eve upset loss to very lowly Blackburn Rovers at home. Prior to the match United had won five straight games and won three straight without allowing a goal. Their only previous home loss was to City, but Blackburn, the lowest club in the table, prevailed 3-2.

United will take to the road to avenge the loss. Newcastle has four wins at home along with three draws. They have allowed 11 goals while scoring 12. United, meanwhile, have played better on the road than at home. They have not lost on the road and have allowed just three goals while scoring 19.

Betting lies: Manchester United is favoured on the road and rightly so. It is a great time to take a road team to win straight out as Newcastle has struggled and United will look to bounce back from an embarrassing defeat.

Tottenham Looks to Continue Streak

As the New Year begins, the sports landscape gears up for a big month of action with plenty of sports betting available. With baseball over and the NBA just beginning, fans turn to hockey-follow all the action and NHL scores. For more help and advice on betting, check out price per head booking and bookie software. In addition, look to sportsbook reviews for addition information during the dramatic season of sports.

This weekend features a full slate of soccer action, with the top leagues around Europe playing, including the English Premiership League featuring some of the best teams in the world. A much anticipated match as two opportunistic clubs make a push for the top tier.

One of the best teams in the league in Tottenham Hotspur looks to stay in the top tier of teams as they play their first game of the New Year at home against lowly West Bromwich Albion.

Tottenham sits in third place in the Premiership, the highest place they have been all year. Even so, they have played the fewest games, 18, of all of the clubs near the top. They have totaled 12 wins with just three losses and three draws, an amount good for 39 points.

They are averaging almost two goals a game, scoring 35 on the season while allowed just 20. At home they are excellent, winning six while losing just one match. They have outscored their opponents by a 17-8 margin in that span.

Hotspur looks to continue that trend as they host West Bromwich United, a club currently in 14th position in the Premiership, looking for their seventh win of the season. They have played 19 games, but drawn just four and have 22 points on the year. Still, three clubs sit ahead of them by one point, another team is at 24, and they can catch up to ninth place Norwich City with a victory and 25 total points.

On the road strangely, West Bromwich has been very good, winning four matches while scoring 12 goals. After putting together two straight victories and then earning a very tough scoreless home draw against Manchester City, West Bromwich fell at home to Everton, 1-0. They have been shut out in their last two games, and will take to the road against a tough defensive club.

Tottenham return home after two games away, and have not lost in four matches after falling on the road to Stoke City. They have allowed just one goal in their last four home matches and have four home shut outs on the season.

Betting lines: At home Tottenham Hotspur is the favourite and rightly so. They have played very well of late but have been overshadowed by the two clubs from Manchester. They will come out strong in the New Year and put up a solid victory, shutting out Bromwich and winning 2-0.

Liverpool and Newcastle Battle to Break in the Top Five

As December winds down, the sports landscape gears up for a big month of action with plenty of sports betting available.

Liverpool host Newcastle United with both clubs looking for valuable points going into the new year. Liverpool sits in sixth position with eight wins and seven draws and a total of 31 points. Just behind them, however, sits Newcastle United, a club that started off so strongly but has since struggled, with eight wins and six losses and 30 points total. In fifth position is Arsenal with 33 points, while Chelsea is within reach in fourth with 34 points.

Liverpool will play at home where they are one of only two clubs in the league that have yet to loss on their home field. They have just three wins, but still have managed six draws without a loss. They have scored 11 goals but only have allowed seven in those nine matches.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have played well on the road, winning four, drawing three, and losing only two matches away from home all season. In those games they have outscored their opponents by a slim 13-11 margin.

Liverpool enter the match having not lost in four straight games, but have earned two draws in a row. After a scoreless draw at Wigan Athletic, they have to rally in the second half at home against Blackburn to earn a 1-1 tie.

Newcastle returned to their winning ways by beating Bolton Wanderers on the road last week 2-0. That followed a very tough stretch of matches that saw Newcastle go winless in six straight matches. In that span they were outscored by a total of 14-6.

Following Liverpool their schedule doesn’t get any easier as they host Manchester United. They have a better offense than Liverpool, scoring 25 goals this season, but they have a worse defense, especially of late. Liverpool have only allowed 14 goals in 18 matches, shutting out their opponents six times. They have, however, been shut out a total of five times on the season.

Betting lines: Liverpool is the favourite at home and rightly so. They have been playing better of late and are the higher seed. Still, Newcastle has looked to finally turned the corner and get back on the winning track and are worth an upset pick on the road.

United Seeks to Continue Premiership Dominance

As December continues, the sports landscape gears up for a big month of action with plenty of sports betting available. With baseball over and the NBA in a lockout, fans turn to hockey-follow all the action and NHL scores.

The top team in the league, Manchester United looks to continue their dominance as they host an opportunistic Wigan Athletic club.

United continue to be one of the best clubs in the league, stringing together very convincing victories.  United sit in second place in the Premiership, with only one loss and 13 victories and a total of 42 points. They have surged of late trying to catch the first place team, Manchester City, who have one more victory and two more points on the table.

United have won four in a row by a combined score of 11-1. They have shut out their opponents in both of their last two games, and have a total of nine shut outs in 17 games. Only two goals have gone past their goalkeeper in their past eight games.

The only blemish on their mark was a 6-1 thrashing at home by the hands of the first place team and cross town rivals, Manchester City. It is their only loss this season, and taking that game aside, Manchester United have only allowed 8 goals in 17 games.

Wigan Athletic have a tough task ahead of them. They sit in 18th position with just three wins on the season to go with five draws. Their 14 points puts them in the relegation zone, but a draw or victory could see them pass Wolverhampton or Queens Park Rangers.

On the road this season they have two victories and a lone draw, but have five losses as well. In those games they have managed just six goals while allowing 14. They are scoring less than a goal per game this season, and will paly one of the best defenses in the league.

To their credit, however, Wigan have not lost in three straight games. They won against West Bromwich on the road, and followed it up with two impressive draws against two great teams, Chelsea and Liverpool. In the Chelsea match, Wigan scored in the 88th minute to tie and earn a precious point.

Betting lines: Wigan have been playing well, but against the best team in the league, they are huge underdogs. United have shown no signs of letting up and no lapses on or off the field. United win and win big as they continue to roll.
