In Europe, soccer action is getting started, as the Premiership and other top leagues around Spain, France, and elsewhere are just beginning. In North America, meanwhile, there is plenty of Major League Soccer play to enjoy as action as the MLS is heading towards the playoffs with plenty of possibilities and points up for grabs.
The season is nearing an end, and the races are still going on in the eastern conference, as the DC United look to secure a playoff spot in the very competitive east, going up against a playoff long-shot, the Columbus Crew.
DC United currently sit in third position in the eastern conference, with every team having just two games left to play. They have 16 wins and six draws, good for 54 points. They are just two points back of second place Chicago Fire, and five back of the top club in Sporting Kansas City. Still, they can’t rest on ties, as the New York Red Bulls are just one point behind, and Houston is only three points back.
In sixth position, but with still a chance at the playoffs, are the Columbus Crew. They have 14 wins and seven draws, good for 49 points, and will look to win two straight to have a chance. To start they will have to earn just their fifth road win of the year. DC, meanwhile, has been solid at home, losing just once all year while winning 11 times and drawing four.
At home, United have outscored their opponents by a staggering 34-15 margin, making them the highest scoring home team in the conference. DC, however, has scored just one goal in each of their last four games, but they won three of those, and drew the other match. They have allowed just three goals in their last six matches.
The two clubs have met twice this season, with DC winning 1-0 at home, while losing 1-0 on the road to the same Columbus club. The Crew, meanwhile are coming off a tough draw against Kansas City, after a win against Phialdelphia.
Betting lines: At home, DC United get the big advantage and rightly so. Columbus is desperate,e but DC has a lot to play for, and they are dominant at home. Look for them to score quick and play solid defense, outlasting the Crew 1-0.
