Portland Timbers

Saturday, May 25, 19:00

The Spring season is upon us, and sports action is heating up all around the world. There is plenty of sports betting to take up, as hockey and basketball head towards the playoffs, and Major League Baseball gets underway. There are even more opportunities too for sports betting online, as soccer action in Europe and North America carries on throughout the year. To keep everything straight, you can look to 5 Dimes Reviews and more detailed betting software to maximize your chances of winning.

Over in Europe, soccer action from the Premiership, Bundesliga, and others has finally come to a close, capping off another exciting season. While nations will continue to prepare for World Cup Qualifiers and work out in the offseason, soccer fans and bettors can get their fix all summer long with action from Major League Soccer.

This weekend features another full slate of games, as clubs jockey for early positioning and start to separate itself from the pack. One team has already separated itself, but not in a good way, as league-worst DC United look to get back on track this weekend as they host western conference Portland Timbers.

Sitting in the basement of the east, and really the league, DC United has just one win in 11 tries. Their two draws help them get to five points, which is two behind a pair of other anemic eastern clubs, but eight back of seventh place New England. If the MLS had a league to which to relegate, DC would be in trouble.

The season is still young, however, and a visit from a northwestern club could translate to three points. DC’s only win came at home, while Portland has only won once on the road. That said, Portland is a far superior team, with four wins, seven draws, and 19 points in the west for third position.

They have in fact yet to lose on the road, drawing five matches while allowing nine goals in those six matches. DC meanwhile has allowed 12 at home in six matches to go with the eight allowed on the road in five.

A draw in their most recent match gives them a bit of momentum, as a 1-1 tie to Sporting Kansas City snapped a seven game losing streak. What’s more, DC scored the last goal, rallying in the second half and overcoming an own-goal to draw.

Portland, meanwhile, has lost just one game all season, and that was their second overall match. They have shut out opponents four times this year, and have scored six goals in their last three games, and nine in their last five. The Timbers are tied for the most goals scored in the league with FC Dallas.

Betting Lines: Even at home, DC United are the underdog and rightly so. They have shown little effort and talent in this early season, and Portland is impressive, at home and away. The Timbers roll, 3-1.

Manchester City v. The Premiership has but one game left in another memorable season, and while much of the table is determined, there are still some exciting match ups to watch and bet on.

The club that will finish off an impressive campaign this season in second place takes the field for their final home game. Unable to catch their crosstown rival Manchester United late in the season, despite beating them in a road match, Manchester City will seek their 24th victory of the year.

They have lost just five times, which looks to stay the best in the league, and at home they stellar, winning 14, drawing three, and losing just one. In 18 home matches, City has allowed a mere 12 goals, and their 31 goals against is the lowest in the league.

City will host Norwich City, one of many clubs stuck in the middle of the table with still a many different outcomes possible depending on what happens this weekend. They currently sit in 12th position with nine wins, 14 draws, and 41 points to their credit. They can reach as high as 10th position, where West Ham United ahs 43 points, or fall back as far as 17th, where Sunderland sits with 39.

It seems unlikely they will move up, however, as they have a mere single victory on the road all season. No other team has won as few road games, though they have tied seven away from home. Still, their 13 away goals for is among the lowest in the league, and have been shut out in five of their last seven on the road.

Still, Norwich is coming off a solid victory at home against West Bromwich Albion, getting ahead early and winning 4-0. City me3anwhil, is undefeated in four straight, shutting out their opponents in their last three.

In their previous meeting, Manchester City prevailed in an offensive bout, winning 4-3, holding off a late surge by Norwich after a controversial red card.

Betting Lines: At home, Manchester City is the huge favourite and rightly so. While they don’t have much to play for, neither does Norwich, and City will cruise to victory inspired by their home fans. Manchester wins, 3-0.

Chelsea v. The Premiership has but one game left in another memorable season, and while much of the table is determined, there are still some exciting match ups to watch and bet on.

Chelsea has locked itself into the third spot as the season winds down, but they look to go out with a home victory as they host another club locked into position.

The Blues have 21 wins and nine draws on this impressive season, unable to catch either club from Manchester, but at long last putting enough distance between themselves and Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal. The three clubs had been battling it out for the third and fourth positions, which grant Champions League berths the following year, and now Chelsea has achieved their goal.

They’ve 72 points, and while they can’t catch Manchester City’s 76, they can still earn three more at home taking on an Everton club that didn’t quite compete as much as they had hoped this year. Still, they’ve had a solid campaign, winning 16, drawing 15, and losing just six, earning 63 points so far. They are four points back of Arsenal in fifth, and five up on Liverpool in seventh.

While they have the third fewest losses in the league, just one more than Manchester City and Manchester United, they have the most draws in the league, something that kept them from moving higher. With just a couple of those draws having been victories, and Everton could be looking forward to Champions play next year.

Chelsea secured their spot last weekend with a road victory against Aston Villa, triumphing 2-1. They have now gone undefeated in seven straight matches, shutting out their opponents three times in that span and scoring at least two goals in six of those seven matches.

Everton meanwhile, has lost just once in their last ten, shutting out their opponent in their last three straight and seven of those ten. In their only other meeting this year, Chelsea won 2-1 on the road.

Betting lines: Chelsea is the favourite at home, but they don’t have anything to play for, and will look to stay fit for their Europa finals match forthcoming. Everton will play strong, and this one ends in a scoreless draw.

United to Win Final Home Game Preview

Special Previews
<guid

The English Premiership has already crowned a champion in Manchester United, securing the title with four games to play. Still, there is much to be determined at both ends of the table, and this weekend features a full slate of matches as the middle of the table looks to sort itself out.

United has secured the league, but they will look to send off their fans with a win this year as the season draws to a close. Their last home match is this weekend, and they will play their 38th and final match on the road the following week.

Last week, at home, they fell to a determined Chelsea club as the Blues still have much to play for. The 1-0 loss was the third time all year United has been shut out, but it was the first time they were blanked at home. They will look to rebound against a weaker team, seeking their 28th win of their year, and their 88th point.

Swansea City meanwhile comes into the match looking to hold on to a spot in the top half of the table. With two games left, they have 11 wins, 13 draws, and 46 points. They can still catch West Bromich Albion in eighth position, as they have 48 points, but can also be caught by West Ham and their 43 points, or even Stoke City in 11th with 41.

On the road this season, they have won five times while drawing five and dropping eight. Swansea has been outscored 23 -18 away from home, but are coming off an impressive road win against a very desperate Wigan Athletic club.

Their three goals in that match broke a three game goalless drought, however two of those matches were scoreless draws. They have had to endure a tough stretch of schedule, playing the top five clubs in the league in eight matches. They have fallen to Spurs, Chelsea, and Arsenal, while drawing Manchester City. In their only other match against United, the two clubs drew at one apiece in Swansea.

Betting Lines: At home, following a loss, Manchester United is the favourite and rightly so. Though they don’t have much to play for, they will perform hard for their fans against a Swansea City club without much to play for either. United wins, 3-0.

Everton v. The Premiership is heading towards its final months, with time running out for clubs to make a push for the top, or escape the relegation of the bottom.

The top team has already been determined, as Manchester United has clinched the title and added a championship to their records. However, the next few positions are still to be determined, with Champions League and Europa League berths on the line. One club that has been on the outside looking in is ready to make its final push, as Everton plays their second to last game, hosting West Ham United.

They will likely finish in sixth position, just outside of the reward zone at the top of the table. Still, they are mathematically alive with 15 wins, 15 draws, and 60 points. They have two games remaining and are five points behind a strong Tottenham club that still has three to play.

Regardless, Everton will look to finish the season strong. This is their last game at home this season, playing on the road at Chelsea to finish their campaign. They have been one of the best home clubs in the league, losing just once all season in front of their fans. They have also won 11 and drawn six, outscoring their opponents by a 31-17 margin.

Their opponent this week is West Ham United, a club looking to stay in the top half of the league to finish the year. They have 11 wins and 10 draws, good for 43 points and a stake of 10th position. They have still can’t Swansea City in ninth, also with 43, but three clubs are within three points, and seven are within five points, allowing for some dramatic shifts as the season winds down.

On the road, the Hammers have fallen 11 times, winning just three while drawing four. Their 11 away goals is among the worst in the league, but they do have a win and two draws in their last six road games, including a narrow loss to Manchester City.

In their previous meeting, Everton won 2-1 on the road.

Betting Lines: At home, Everton is the big favourite and rightly so. While they likely won’t have a chance to move up, they are the superior team and will play to their fans. The Premiership is heading towards its final months, with time running out for clubs to make a push for the top, or escape the relegation of the bottom.

While the league has already been won by Manchester United with four games to go, the next four positions are still to be determined, with several clubs vying for a birth next year in Champions League play, or failing that, a spot in the Europa League.

Tottenham Hotspur is one of those clubs, and they play at home this weekend looking for a key three points. With four games to go, Spurs have fallen to fifth position following a disappointing draw at lowly Wigan Athletic. Still, their 18 wins and 8 draws, has them at 62 points, just a pair of points behind Arsenal and three back of Chelsea. The Spurs, however, have a game in hand on the Gunners.

They seek their 10th home win of the year as they host Southampton. Spurs have only lost three times at home, and have outscored their opponents by a 27-13 margin. They have now gone undefeated in four straight games after two straight, and look to gain some momentum ahead of a big clash at Chelsea.

Southampton, meanwhile, has been mired near the middle of the table and looks to finish in the top half of the league before the season ends. Southampton are in 13th position with nine wins and 12 draws, a total good for 39 points. They are just a pair behind Stoke City and Fulham, while only three points behind two more clubs, as they try to hit 10th position with just three games to go.

They have just won three times on the road, however, with six draws and eight losses. While they have scored 22 goals in their away matches, they have surrendered 34. They have not won in three games, a stretch that comes after a three game winning streak. They have been shut out two matches in a row.

Spurs won the first meeting of the year, a 2-1 victory at Southampton back in the fall.

Betting Lines: Spurs are the favourites at home, and rightly so. This season they play 25 home match in all competitions and they have 20 wins, 4 draws and only 1 lose. That lose was against Barcelona. First match in Turkey ended with 1-0 win for Fenerbahce. It is not big lead when you see Benfica score at home. My bet in this match goes on Benfica to qualify in finals of UEFA Europe league.

Chelsea v. The Premiership is heading towards its final months, with time running out for clubs to make a push for the top, or escape the relegation of the bottom.

Tournaments are also coming to an end, and the Europa League has but four teams left, as the second leg of a pair of semi finals matches get underway this week. FC Basel has been matched up against Premiership powerhouse Chelsea, and the two clubs head towards the finish in England.

Chelsea comes into the match with the pedigree and experience playing at high level, and while they have been ousted of FA Cup and Champions League play, they will look to secure a trophy as this year’s campaign comes to an end.

They have the early advantage, not only winning in the first leg, but scoring two goals, as the edged out Basel on their home turf. It was a stunning conclusion after Chelsea got off to an early lead with a 12th minute goal by Victor Moses. Fabian Schar converted a penalty for Basel in the 87th minute, but an opportunistic Chelsea club took advantage of sloppy defense by Basel and David Luiz scored in the fourth minute of added time to give Chelsea a huge win.

The Blues enter the match going undefeated in four straight Premiership matches. During that stretch they fell at FK Rubin Kazan 3-2, but the match was the second leg of Europa action, and Chelsea prevailed 5-4 on aggregate holding off a late surge. It was just a few weeks ago too that their FA Cup campaign ended, losing at home to Manchester City.

While they have been competing at many different levels, FC Basel enter a bit more rested, having playing just three times in the last three weeks. They beat Zurick at home and Thun on the road, and have no lost a match since mid March. Basel edged out Tottenham in the quarter finals, earning a 2-2 draw on the road in the first leg, but in failing to hold on to a late 2-1 lead at home, they gave up the equalizer and went to penalties.

Betting Lines: At home, Chelsea is the favourite and rightly so. They already have the edge, and will secure their spot in the Europa Finals with a 2-0 victory

Manchester City v. The Premiership is heading towards its final months, with time running out for clubs to make a push for the top, or escape the relegation of the bottom.

While the league has already been won by Manchester United with four games to go, their crosstown rival and last year’s winner Manchester City looks to secure second place as they season winds down. They have remained in the same position for much of the season, with United out of reach ahead of them, and a group of clubs farther below.

Recent surges by some clubs, and some stumbles by City, have left the door open for second to be snatched away should they falter. With five games remaining, they have 20 wins, eight draws, and 68 points. They remain five points up on Arsenal with a game in hand, and six points ahead of Chelsea in fourth position and seven points in front of fifth place Tottenham.

They come into the match having fallen on the road to Spurs last week, losing 3-1 after staking a halftime lead. They have a relatively easy schedule left, however, with three matches at home, including the forthcoming one against West Ham United. At home this season City has only lost once, winning 12 times and drawing three. They have outscored their opponents by a 36-11 margin, and won their last three home matches, shutting out their rival each time.

West Ham, meanwhile, is back in 10th position and will look for a top half finish. They have 11 wins and nine draws, and their 42 points sees them just three back of eighth place. On the road they have just three wins to go with 10 draws, and they’ve amassed a meager 10 away goals all year long. They have been blanked twice in their last three road matches, and won just twice in their last six overall.

The two teams met back in November at West Ham, playing to a scoreless draw.

Betting lines: City is the clear favourite and rightly so. They are playing at home looking to move one step closer to securing second place, and West Ham has little at stake. Hammers struggle to score on the road, and City place great defense. City wins, 3-0.
