Red Bulls and Fire Battle Atop Eastern Conference
With summer here, there is plenty of daily sports action and with that, a lot of opportunity for sports betting to take up. The MLB is now in the second half of the season, and NFL preseason action is only a few weeks away, with many opportunities for sports betting online. Though the Champions League and Premiership have come to end, in North America soccer action is just heating up. There is plenty of Major League Soccer play to enjoy as action in and around Europe has come to a close at least for a couple months, as the Euro Cup has ended with Spain crowned champion.
MLS is heading in the second half of their season, with tight races around the league including atop the eastern conference table. Two of the contenders do battle this week, as the New York Red Bulls host the Chicago Fire.
The Red Bulls finds themselves in third position in the east through half of the season, with the Fire right behind them. New York has nine wins and five draws, good for 32 points, while the Fire are just one draw behind them with 31 points. First place is up for grabs as neither Sporting Kansas City nor DC United have broken away, as the clubs sit one and two with 36 and 33 points respectively.
New York hosts the match against the Fire as they remain one of just two clubs in the league who have yet to lose a match at home. They have five wins and three draws, outscoring their opponents by nearly double, 19-10. The match against Chicago will be the second of a three game home stand, having played two on the road, earning a loss and a draw.
They returned home to play a tough Seattle club, drawing them 2-2, unable to hold a second half lead. Chicago, meanwhile, will be looking for their fourth road win of the season, coming off a 1-0 home win against Vancouver.
The Fire are far more defensive, having just allowed 21 goals all year while the Red Bulls have allowed 29. Similarly, the Fire have only scored 22 goals on the year while New York leads the Eastern conference with 34 goals for.
The two clubs played just a month ago, with Chicago winning at home, 3-1.
Betting lines: Though the Fire were victorious in June, the Red Bulls are a much better team at home. They are favoured, and rightly so, as they have yet to lose in New York. The Fire are a good team, but struggle on the road. New York will prevail, winning 2-1 to move closer to first place.
