There is plenty of soccer action still going on this winter as the top flight of leagues in Europe continue their play, and tournament play continues this week. The English Premiership returns this weekend after a short break, and Liverpool looks to continue their surge up the table as one of the hottest clubs in the league as they travel to visit lowly Bolton Wanderers.
Liverpool have been coming very close to cracking the top tier of five clubs over the last few weeks, and currently find themselves in seventh pool through 21 games. They have nine wins and eight draws, a total good for 35 points.
They have distanced themselves from clubs behind them, maintaining a five point lead on eighth place Stoke City. As well, Liverpool have moved close to the top once more, just a point behind Newcastle United and Arsenal, the two clubs occupying fifth and fourth position respectively.
They take to the road where they have played decent this average with a weak offense but tough defense. They have allowed just 10 goals while scoring 10 goals, and have won four games, drawn one, and lost five.
Their opponent this week is lowly Bolton Wanderers, a club that has been stuck in the relegation zone for months now and is desperate to get out. They have five wins on the year, but just one draw. They have one of the worst back ends in the league, allowing a Premiership-high 46 goals in 21 matches. They have scored 25 on the year, but only 11 at home.
Surprisingly, Bolton has played much better on the road than at home, where they have won just one time. They have drawn once at home as well, but have lost eight, allowing another league high 24 goals against at home.
While they are coming off a win in FA Cup action, Bolton lost in their last Premiership match, falling to powerhouse Manchester United 3-0 on the road. They return home where in their last match they earned a 1-1 draw against equally anemic Wolverhampton.
Betting lines: Liverpool is the clear favourite, even on the road. Bolton has struggled all year long, especially at home, and now they host a hungry Liverpool club that is looking to break into the top tier.
