San Jose Earthquakes vs Seattle Sounders FC

Saturday July 31st, 22:00 EST

As the summer transition in the sports world takes place, sports betting is still in full swing with a wide range of events for all fans. NFL betting is already underway as training camp begins within a week’s time and every team believes they can contend for the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, MLB betting is available daily as baseball approaches the trade deadline and teams determine the future of this season.  Also, in the wake of the World Cup, Major League Soccer is in the second half of the season here in North America with lots of exciting action taking place each week.

The Seattle Sounders FC travels south down the west coast to visit the San Jose Earthquakes in an important western conference tilt as both teams look to break free of a tight race in the table.

Four teams are within four points of one another in the middle of the western conference, including San Jose at fourth with 23 points, and Seattle at sixth with 22 points. Los Angeles long ago ran away with the table and has 41 points, while Real Salt Lake sits comfortable in second with 31; the rest of the clubs continue to fight for every point and a with for Seattle could see them jump up two position.

Both San Jose and Seattle have scored 20 goals on the year, but Seattle has struggled on defense conceded 25 scores, with a minus five differential on the road. They have come on strong of late, however, with two wins and a draw in their last three games, helping them move up the table and gain confidence.  Their games in the CONCACAF Champions League in the coming weeks should also help the team stay with their positive momentum and give them an extra step in their MLS games. Moreover, Seattle traveled coast to coast in their last away game and beat DC United 1-0.

San Jose also has momentum behind them, going undefeated in their previous four matches, amounting to one win and three draws.  However, they have not won at home in over a month and a half and need to find a way to hold their leads and play stronger defense.  In their last three home matches, San Jose have allowed six goals. Offensive help hasn’t been a problem, with Chris Wondolowski leading the team with six scores, and Arturo Alvarez and Ike Opara contributing three apiece.

Betting Lines: San Jose is favoured due to their being the home team and have more points with fewer games planes than Seattle.  However, after a rocky start to the year, Seattle seems to have come together as a team and are playing well of late, spurred on by the offensive prowess of Steve Zakuani and Fredy Montero.  San Jose is not flawless at home; look for Seattle to travel well and earn a surprise victory on the road over the Earthquakes.
