Hull City v Chelsea
Saturday, January 9th
English Premier Odds: Chelsea -250, Hull City +850
Bookmaker Draw Odds (Bookmaker Review): +400
It has been a sluggish month for Chelsea in the Premier League and considering they are the leaders in the fixtures table, they left too many points on the table in December.
The Blues had just two wins in December along with three draws and one loss. In total, they took just nine out of a possible 18 points.
That lackadaisical spell has allowed some other teams to close the gap to the first-place Blues and if Arsenal can capture an expected and fairly easy win against Bolton, they will move within one point of the leaders.
The good news for Chelsea is they have a relatively easy bout coming up as well. Arsenal will have played their last two games against teams that are currently slated to be relegated and now Chelsea will get a shot at one as well.
This Saturday, Chelsea will travel to Kingston Communications Stadium with the goal to beat the team that has the second-fewest amount of points in the EPL this year.
Don’t be misguided, though, as Hull City has plenty to play for. Last season, they dodged relegation on the last day of the year and they might be on track for a similar photo finish unless they start winning games like this.
Hull City currently has 18 points, which ties them with Bolton and West Ham, but they are still at the bottom of that tiebreaker. Any points on Saturday would put them ahead of both of those teams.
Garnering points against Chelsea and their difficult diamond scheme may be tough, though. The Blues remember what happened last year, which was a 0-0 draw with Hull City. Just days after that draw, Luiz Felipe Scolari departed. They’ll remember that result and hope to avoid that type of disappointment again.
Chelsea is having the most success that they have had since the Jose Mourinho days and new boss Carlos Ancelotti would like to make some new memories.
In general, the Blues are more focused on the Champions League than the EPL trophy but they have shown a renewed commitment this year.
Those who bet on sports should expect a comfortable win for Chelsea as the new year gets under way.
