There is plenty of soccer action still going on this winter as the top flight of leagues in Europe continue their play, and tournament play continues this week. The English Premiership returns this weekend after a short break, and Chelsea looks to continue their surge up the table as one of the hottest clubs in the league as they travel to visit the struggling club from Swansea City.
Sitting in fourth place for much of the last month, Chelsea continue to try to gain ground on Tottenham Hotspur, the closest club sitting in third position. Behind them is Arsenal in fifth, but the Gunners along with Newcastle United both have 36 points.
They have 12 wins on the year to go with five draws and five losses, and are fourth in the league in scoring with 40 goals while allowing 25 on the season.
On the road Chelsea have found ways to earn points, losing just twice all season. They have five wins and four draws away from home, scoring 16 goals in the process while allowing just nine all year. They will be playing on the road as they are hosted by Swansea City, a club that this season was promoted to the English Premiership.
Swansea City sit in 13th position after falling of late. They have six wins and eight draws, but eight losses puts them at 26 points. Four teams are within three points of them, so Swansea have a chance to move up some spots with a win, but a loss could see them fall back even farther as the bottom half of the table remains bunched up.
After surprising Arsenal at home, winning 3-2 against the Gunners, Swansea let down on the road as they fell to Sunderland 2-0. They had gone four games without a loss, winning two and drawing two , but they continue to struggle to score. Aside from the three goals against Arsenal, Swansea have been shut out in eight of their last 11 games, and scored two goals in a match just twice.
Betting lines: Chelsea are the clear favourites, even on the road. Swansea is at home where they upset the Gunners, but Chelsea will not overlook the young team and suffer the same fate. Look for the Blues to come out strong and get a hard-earned three points in a 2-1 victory.
