Soccer action has returned to Europe as the top leagues begun another exciting campaign this season, with the English Premiership and other top tier groups getting underway. Meanwhile, in the states, Major League Soccer action is nearing the playoffs, as teams scramble for points and jockey for positioning atop the table.
One of the worst clubs in the league takes to the pitch again this weekend to prove themselves and play for pride, as the Toronto FC look to upset first place Sporting Kansas City in the Midwest.
In last position since the season began in March, TFC had a short lived run a month ago but has since fallen back again, staring up from the bottom. Through 26 games they have just five wins and six draws, a total good for 21 points. They will be playing to get out of the basement, with New England Revolution continuing to falter, and now just three points ahead.
TFC have been outscored by 17 goals on the season, allowing a league worst 46 goals against. They will take to the road this weekend where they have play relatively decent, that is no better or worse than at home. They have two wins and three draws, with 16 goals for and 25 against.
However, they will be facing off against the best club in the eastern conference in Kansas City. With 14 wins and 5 draws, Sporting has 47 points and hold on to the top spot for the moment. The New York Red Bulls, with an extra game played, have 46 points in second, while Houston is back with 42.
At home, Kansas City has seven wins and just three losses, allowing a mere nine goals in 13 home game. Still, they have been struggling on offense, scoring just 15 times at home this season. They stay at home after earning a draw against New York, looking to get three easy points from the worst club in the league.
The two clubs played just a couple weeks ago in Toronto, where Kansas City triumphed on the road, winning 1-0.
Betting line: Having just beat them on the road and now returning home, Kansas City is the big favourite and rightly so. They are a dominant club in the league and at home, and TFC has struggled everywhere. The odds are not great, but Kansas City will win easily.
